Elmer, everyone's favourite elephant

The students have been learning all about the ‘Ee’ sound and the ‘er’ digraph so we thought this was a great opportunity to introduce everyone’s favourite patchwork elephant, Elmer! Elmer has such wonderful colours that we felt it only natural to follow up the books with some bright artwork.

Here are some Elmer elephants...

and another one...

Students really enjoyed drawing their own Elmer’s using bright pastels. Some students even made stuffed Elmer elephants and beautifully decorted them using powder paint, patterned paper and sequins.

We paired this extremely fun activity with some poetry writing. The students produced some wonderful pieces and were very proud of their work.
What an enjoyable activity!

P is for Penguin

How gorgeous are these paper bag penguins!

Kate had a lovely time making them with our preps. After reading a big book all about penguins, these lovely little creatures have formed the basis for lots of writing activities.  Here are some facts that some of the Prep children wrote....

and here's another one...
This writing is going to be published along with some opinions about Penguins...so stay tuned...might be a couple of weeks away!

Wonderful Woven Whales

What a colourful display!

Kate made these very cute whales while teaching her class about the letter 'w'.

They also wrote words beginning with 'w' and had them splashing around as water drops.
